Destruction of the central black hole gas reservoir through head-on galaxy collisions

چکیده

A massive black hole exists in almost every galaxy. They occasionally radiate a vast amount of light by releasing gravitational energy accreting gas, with cumulative active period only few $10^8$ years, so-called the duty cycle Active Galactic Nuclei. Namely, many galaxies today host starving hole. Although galaxy collisions have been thought to enhance nucleus activity, origin cycle, especially shutdown process, is still critical issue. Here we show that are also capable suppressing fueling using an analytic model and three-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations, applying well-determined parameter sets for galactic collision Andromeda Our models demonstrate central can strip torus-shaped gas surrounding hole, putative source. The derived condition switching-off indicates significant fraction currently bright nuclei become inactive, reminiscent fading/dying phenomena associated merging events. Galaxy may therefore be responsible both turning-on depending on orbit (head-on or far-off-centre).

The black hole mass – galaxy age relation

We present evidence that there is a significant correlation between the fraction of a galaxy’s mass that lies in its central black hole and the age of the galaxy’s stellar population. Since the absorption line indices that are used to estimate the age are luminosity weighted, they essentially measure the time since the last significant episode of star formation in the galaxy. The existence of t...

The Effect of a Central Supermassive Black Hole on the Gas Fuelling

When a supermassive black hole exists in the centre of a galaxy, an additional inner Lindblad resonance (ILR) exists inside the usual ILRs. We study gas dynamics in a weakly barred potential with a central supermassive black hole by using 2D numerical simulations, and we investigate the effect of the additional ILR on fuelling gas into nuclear starburst regions or AGNs. Our numerical results sh...

A Non-Parametric Estimate of the Mass of the Central Black Hole in the Galaxy

We estimate the mass of the central black hole in our Galaxy from stellar kinematical data published by Ghez et al. (1998) and Genzel et al. (2000). For this we develop a method, related to Merritt (1993), for non-parametrically reconstructing the mass profile and the stellar distribution function in the central region of the Galaxy from discrete kinematic data, including velocity errors. Model...
